In the meantime it can look back at a long tradition: Since 35 years the Classic & Prestige Salon is highlight and final event of the vintage car season – embedded in the Essen Motor Show. For more than 55 percent of the more than 350,000 expected visitors of the 49th Essen Motor Show the presented classics are counted as main reasons to visit the fair – and nearly all pour into hall 1 as experience shows. It is the more than 8,100 square meters large scene of the Classic & Prestige Salon, one of the most spectacular German classic fairs with international atmosphere. As end of the season the fair in the fair belongs to the classic exhibitions of the international vintage car and collector’s car scene with the highest number of visitors.
The sales exhibition for vintage cars, young classics, history motorsport, classic and prestige automobiles is one of the especially ambitious classic fairs, at which more than 25 selected vintage car dealers offer more than 250 classic connoisseurs vehicles for sale. The spectacular offer reaches from the Ferrari 250 SWB for several millions Euros up to the young-timer VW Golf GTI from the 1990ies for under 15,000 Euros. The majority of the offer and the showpieces consist of – corresponding to the theme of the Essen Motor Show – classics with strong sporting touch. To them belong the Alfa Romeo-sports car and the Mercedes-compressor car from the pre-war era, super-sports cars from the 1950ies, 1960ies and 1970ies from BMW 507, Porsche 550 Spyder, via Ferrari 250 GT Mille Miglia and Lamborghini Miura up to modern bolides like the type of a Ferrari Enzo up to the 700 HP powerful Lamborghini Aventador. One of the strengths of the offer at the Classic & Prestige Salon are, moreover, the so-called modern classics - young classics as types like the BMW M1 or M3, Porsche 911 of the 1980ies and 1990ies-Jahre, Porsche 968, Chevrolet Corvette, Mercedes-Benz SL-models of the construction series R 129 and additional mostly sporting beginner classics of attractive prices.
Meanwhile the great special exhibition of the Classic & Prestige Salon is focus and highlight: “Jubilee preview 70 years Ferrari – history + motorsport 1947 - 2017“. In the meantime these anniversary presentations can celebrate a little jubilee themselves due to their great successes: In this year they are organised for the fifth time by the salon organiser S.I.H.A. – who also arranges yearly the greatest classic fair of the world, the Techno-Classica Essen. In this year of the special presentation Ferrari is in the focus, the very especially attractive car brand which 1947 – thus 70 years ago – presented its first independent car construction with the type 125 S.
The in the racing used 125 S was the ancestor of a lot of successful Ferrari-racing cars, of which some of them, as highlights of the special exhibition, let jump the fascination of the brand with the jumping horse to the fair visitors like a spark. Examples of the at Essen presented attractions are the
. Ferrari 342 America from 1953. Build with a 240 HP 4.1 liter V12 front engine, the Ferrari 342 together with the Ferrari 212 Inter was the first ever build automobile by Pinin Farina. Only 6 units were build and this was the start up for a long business cooperation between Ferrari and Pinin Farina.
. Ferrari 312 F1 form the year 1967 with three-liter-V12-engine, first Ferrari-formula-car with the model code 312 (the 3 is for three liter cubic capacity, the 12 is for the number of cylinders), which the three-liter-racing cars of the Scuderia Ferrari had with different additional markings until 1980.
. Ferrari 312 T– with such a 495 HP powerful mono-posto Niki Lauda won 1975 his first F-1-world championship. The T in the model marking is for the transversal (cross) between engine and differential installed shift gear.
. Ferrari F 310B from the year 1997 with ten-cylinder-engine – with a car of this type Michael Schumacher gained in his second Formula-1-season at Ferrari the vice-driver-world champion ship.
Further fr street-Ferraris, which are counted to the most powerful, fastest and most spectacular cars from Maranello, ensure goose-pimples:
. Ferrari 288 GTO from 1984. This car payed homage to the legend Ferrari GTO from 1962 as a “Gran Turismo Omologato” and in total 272 vehicles
were build in 1984/85. The Ferrari 288 GTO was presented during the Geneva International Motor Show 1984 and with its 400 HP 2.8 liter Twin Turbo V8
the car was most powerful street legal car ever build by Ferrari up to that time. The 288 GTO was the first super sports car and was followed by legends like
the F40, F50, Ferrari Enzo and last but least the La Ferrari, which were shown in Essen on the Jubilee Preview – 70 years Ferrari History and Motorsport.
. Ferrari F 40: built from 1987 until 1992 for the 40 th anniversary of the company, with its 478 HP it was then the fastest and most powerful Ferrari-street- racing car, fired with a three-liter-turbo-V8, which catapulted it to 324 km/h. Instead of the planned 450 specimens in the end 1,315 pieces of the car were manufactured, which at the end of the 1980ies ensured real vintage-car-hype.
. Ferrari F 50: The follower of the F 40, built 1996/1997 in an edition of 349 pieces with a lot of components coming from the formula 1for the 50th company anniversary, takes from its 4.7 liter-V12-centre-engine 520 HP, good enough for 325 km/h.
. Ferrari Enzo: The Enzo manufactured from 2002 until 2004 was with a top speed of 355 km/h the fastest till then existing street-racing car from Maranello. 660 HP from the 6-liter-V12 in the centre of the car speeded up the two-seater, designed with still more formula-1-components as the F 50, in 3.94 seconds from 0 up to 100 km/h. 400 pieces were built at Ferrari.
. LaFerrari: The first Ferrari with hybrid-drive, presented 2013 at the Genevan salon, with its in total 963 HP is the ever built most powerful street-Ferrari, the company statement for the maximum speed is “more than 350 km/h.“ After the manufacturing of 499 pieces of the limited series were manufactured, in September this year Ferrari published to manufacture a 500th specimen, which shall be auctioned on a still not known date in favour of the earthquake victims in Accumoli.
From the already started modernization renovations of the fair Essen the exhibitors and visitors of the Classic & Prestige Salon are nothing to aware of – classic clubs, offerers of spare parts for classics, accessories, vintage-car literature, classical model cars and car-art still present their range.
