Targa Florio The first edition of the Targa Florio was held in 1906, after Vincenzo Florio threw a bet in the world's face, to organise a car race in Sicily, on a track where the turns were like serpents and the steep downhill roads were covered with dust and full of holes. It was a bet that became a myth, a legendary sporting event that never lost its appeal and which saw the most prestigious names in automobile racing; Nuvolari, Fangio, Moss, Von Trips and Vaccarella engaged themselves in epic battles on Sicily's unique and dangerous roads.
