20th TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN from 26 to 30 March 2008:
The Classic Fair of the Superlatives

BENTLEY

The TECHNO CLASSICA emphasises its status as globally largest and most important platform of the classic car presentations of international automobile manufacturers with a particular noble premiere: the British traditional brand Bentley is initially present in Essen with an own brand exhibition stand. The manufacturer of choice and sporty luxury automobiles which is affiliated to the Volkswagen group since ten years, builds a bridge from its almost 90 year old history to modernity - as consistent and forceful as almost no other manufacturer presenting at the TECHNO CLASSICA, for Bentley intends to show the particular historic counterpart to each new Bentley - which as new cars already are classics.

The motto of the British presentation: Grand Touring, represented mostly by two-door cars with the winged B as a brand mark. The stars of the Bentley exhibition stand are the Bentley Speed Eight with the race number 7, winning car of Le Mans in the year 2003 and a Bentley 4 ½ litre Blower from the year 1929, a Le Mans team car. These compressor cars with the engine performance enhanced by permanently running Roots compressors from Villiers have become legends by race drivers as Woolf Barnato and the legendary Bentley Boys. In honour of him and the other Bentley Boys, the complete Bentley exhibition team is equipped with overalls in the style of the Bentley Boys, thus providing an impressive and authentic image.

As another highlight, the factory located in the British town of Crewe shows the legendary Carlo Talamo Bentley. Talamo, Italian importer of Bentley and Rolls-Royce vehicles, had this individual piece built for him as individual copy, manufactured based on a Bentley Continental R amounting to 250,000 Pound Sterling (approx. € 375,000). The characteristics of the extravagant Bentley are the the interior equipment designed in racing look with roll-over bar, tuned engine and some extra styling as a non-varnished, polished aluminium engine bonnet, wire netting radiator grill with visible yellow radiator fans behind it.

Two staff members of the equipment department of Mulliner will show their skills on-site as upholsterers and wood working specialists so that the visitors of the TECHNO-CLASSICA are able to see the diligence and care used in manufacturing Bentley automobiles. Mulliner, the Bentley department for special constructions, formerly was a company building stage coaches, established already in the year 1760. Most of the rather sporty designed Bentley coachwork was constructed mainly by Mulliner. The company was acquired by Bentley Motors in the nineteen seventies. One example for Mulliner is presented at the Bentley exhibition stand - an R-type Continental of 1952 with Mulliner coachwork, with almost 200 km/h at that time the fastest four-seater of the world.
