In 1862 -150 years ago - Adam Opel established a company for the manufacture of sewing machines in Rüsselsheim, which from 1886 also produced bicycles and within a short time, achieved world leadership in this sector. He laid the foundation for the automobile company, which - continued by his sons - has manufactured automobiles since 1899 and had been the largest European vehicle manufacturer in the 1930s. After World War II, Opel continued construction of solid and reliable cars, partly with very sporting genes. The 150th anniversary will be properly celebrated at TECHNO-CLASSICA. On
the occasion of the birthday celebration "150 Years of Opel", the historic
division Opel Classic Europe of the company from Rüsselsheim ties in with
an old, well-maintained tradition: together with the Old Opel Community of Interest,
Opel exhibits on a large area in hall 2. At this year's TECHNO-CLASSICA, Opel
will show interesting exhibits from each decade of the Opel history: "These
also include early sewing machines, bicycles from the history of Opel two-wheelers,
historic Opel motorcycles and even Opel refrigerators - and of course Opel automobiles
will not miss out", promises the newly established Opel historic team. For
the range of suitable exhibition objects, the Opel staff can draw on plentiful
resources: the classic collection of the Opel Classic Europe pool includes almost
500 design study cars and production vehicles. Those who have seen the Opel presentation last year at TECHNO-CLASSICA with the preview of this year's spectacular event will know that the brand with the flash logo is always good for both spectacular and attractive surprises... |
