| Techno Classica Essen March 26 - 30 2008. VIP, Preview day March 26. 20th
TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN from 26 to 30 March 2008: Opel Opel, the oldest existing automobile brand in Germany, presents at this year's TECHNO-CLASSICA three highlights of the 106 years of racing history of the Rüsselsheim company - on the occasion of the Opel triumph well 100 years ago at the "Kaiserpreis" race in the year 1907. At that time the Opel factory driver Carl Jörns won the award donated by the German Emperor for the best German automobile. The huge cup designed of porcelain will be presented as well as an Opel racing car from the year 1902, an Opel Grand Prix racing car of 1913 and the legendary green Opel Grand Prix and record car of 1914. When this monster with a 12.3 litre, four-valve engine was presented, it was a remarkable premiere: the cylinder-capacity monster with 260 HP could be seen at the TECHNO-CLASSICA three years ago as half-finished object of restoration at the Opel exhibition stand. The restoration is completed now - the Opel historic department "Opel Classic" can show to the public the operable bolide with a speed of 226 km/h in exhibition hall x. Opel's plans for the new Opel museum in Rüsselsheim with 8,000 square meters at the historic site in the old Opel factory are assuming shape now: the basic planning will be completed by the end of this year, the construction will start in 2009 and Opel will open up a spectacular world of the Opel brand and tradition - under one umbrella with everything which will enthuse lovers of classic cars. "We are currently concentrating all our efforts towards the new Opel museum, thus the capacity of Opel Classic is tied up in Rüsselsheim. The presentation of Opel history will therefore take place at the exhibition stand of the Vintage Opel Interest Community with this year's TECHNO-CLASSICA and will be strongly supported by us in the arrangement of the stand", outlines Heinz H. Zettl, Head of Opel Classic, the presentation of the company with the flash in the logo. Opel thus proves the important part the clubs and interest communities take for the heritage and tradition of automobile manufacturers - and the Vintage Opel Interest Community (AOIG) amends the presentation of the flash-cars with exhibits of recent racing history. The selection was not completed when this publication went to press, but the organisers of the exhibition stand are planning to present a Kadett A, as it won a category in 1963's Tour d'Europe, an Opel Omega from the race of the German Racing Championship of the neieteen-nineties and possibly a rally Ascona. The AOIG wants
to place emphasis on the enlargement of its club and service range by the presentation
of Opel exhibits of the recent past: young classic cars and dynamics is the slogan.
The club is offering comprehensive information at the TECHNO-CLASSICA on the newly
established type departments which are taking care of modern Opel like a Kadett
E, Corsa, Vectra A, Omega and Calibra. |
