| Techno Classica Essen March 26 - 30 2008. VIP, Preview day March 26. 20th
TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN from 26 to 30 March 2008: Porsche A Porsche does not necessarily require an anniversary to provide for enthusiasm at a classic fair: it is enough if it is presented there. This is the motto of the Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG at the TECHNO CLASSICA, presenting at the company stand of about 720 square metres a Porsche 930 Turbo of the year 1975 and the winning car of the 24 hours of Le Mans from the year 1971, the Porsche 917 short back with the race number 22. Both cars are from the collection of the Porsche museum - and both are representing superlatives. The 260 HP 3-litre boxer engine of the 930 Turbo accelerates the top model of the offering from Zuffenhausen at that time, distinguished by its large rear wing and curved mudguard broadening, to 250 km/h - thus the Turbo was the fastest series-produced German street car at that time. The Porsche 917 with the factory drivers Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko was more than 100 km/h faster - i.e. 360 km/h - at the long Hunaudières straight in Le Mans, outclassing all rivals. After 24 hours the car had covered a distance of 5,335.16 kilometres - and thus established a record for eternity: the long straight is interrupted by two chicanes since 1992 so that such speeds as 1971 and thus such distances cannot be achieved any more during the 24-hour races. Next to such two factory cars, the Porsche stand also presents a current 911 with "Porsche Exclusiv" equipment and presumably eight Porsche classic valuables from club members, covering a wide range of the Porsche street cars. Additional consultations and exhibitions take place in the fields "Porsche Classic Original Spare Parts" and "Porsche Exclusive & Equipment" as well as the sale of "Porsche Selection" items. Furthermore, visitors of the TECHNO-CLASSICA can can look over the shoulder of Porsche specialists in an interactive body shop and discuss with them questions of restoration. However, Porsche cannot get around one anniversary, because "60 Years of Porsche" needs to be celebrated this year: the first street Porsche (still with centre engine), "Porsche Sport 356/1" type, received the street approval with the license plate K-45 286 on 15 June 1948 in Kärnten/Austria - and the magazine "Motor und Sport" highly praised the "crossbreed between Volkswagen and Auto Union racing cars for the category of sports cars". Thus, the year 1948 is the year of birth of the Porsche sports cars. |
