Notwithstanding the discussion on particulate matter, the passion for fascinating automobiles and the charm of vintage cars is unbroken even in the digital era. The best example year in and year out is the TECHNO-CLASSICA in Essen: Far more than 150,000 visitors come to the Ruhr metropolis - exceeded by no other indoor classic car fair - but it is not the mass but the class which makes quality.
According to a study of the Allensbach Opinion Research Centre dated 2006, 14.8 million Germans are interested in vintage cars and 2.4 million German citizens even refer to themselves as vintage car experts - they are infected by the vintage virus. Those experiencing the visitors at TECHNO-CLASSICA will realise that such figures make sense. And those inspecting the high-class and entertaining offering of the classic car world fair understand that such viral infection is enjoyed with pleasure and passion. This is exactly what accounts for the special quality of the TECHNO-CLASSICA: discriminating international audience meets first-class exhibitors.
Exhibitors and audience are mutually seeking inspiration. The choice of the exhibitors is first-class. So the exhibitors are designing their presentations in an attractive way - whether professionals as automobile manufacturers with their highly professional performances or enthusiasts as the club members with their booths designed lovingly and very imaginative.
This again is also appreciated by the audience - flocking to the Essen trade fair halls. The visitor development of the TECHNO-CLASSICA continuously increased during the 20 years of its existence (see chapter "The TECHNO-CLASSICA - a Story of Success") The annual rendezvous at the classic car world fair has become an absolute must for the scene. The hotels in Essen are fully booked during the time of the TECHNO-CLASSICA, because those who like to experience the entire size and variety of the TECHNO-CLASSICA cannot do this within one day.
The number of foreign guests is continuously growing in this process - and they often come from far away: last year the visitors of the TECHNO-CLASSICA came from 38 nations - the global origin of the exhibitors also is impressive: they come from 26 nations. Meanwhile the English language can be heard in the exhibition halls as often as French, Spanish or Italian - and by no means do the guests come from Europe only. The TECHNO-CLASSICA is globally perceived as a trade platform for classic cars. Meanwhile classic collectors regularly arrive from North and South America to purchase at the fair. Also the more than 1,000 accredited journalists regard the TECHNO-CLASSICA as the source of information on the issue of vintage cars - and correspondingly are reporting on it. For them as also for many decision makers of the scene, the classic world fair has become a constant meeting point: real insider circles have established at some stands.
The TECHNO-CLASSICA has become a fixed date in the agenda of all vintage enthusiasts in the now 20 years of its existence, owed to its guests - addressing its audience: thank you, Dankeschön, merci, grazie, muchas gracias.
