Particularly in Europe and the USA, young classic cars are becoming increasingly popular and trendy - and they are already an integral part of TECHNO-CLASSICA for many years. According to the generally accepted definition, young classic cars are well-maintained vehicles of the age between 15 and 30 years, which already are referred to as classic cars or have the potential to become such cars. Since the term however was established some years ago, the scene not only includes the automobiles of the 1980s and 1990s, but also considers those of the 1970s as young classic cars. According to the statistics of the German Federal Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the market for vehicles between 15 and 30 years of age covers about 6.6 million cars. However, only every fifth owner uses his/her car as the main vehicle. These figures, just as the interest, is also reflected at TECHNO-CLASSICA: S.I.H.A. estimates that around 20 percent of all cars offered at the classic world show are young classic cars. The enthusiasm for young classic cars is found in almost all social classes and covers all ages. Research of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) and DEKRA proved that approx. 60 percent of the owners of a young classic car are between the age of 21 and 50 - and therefore not much older than the cars themselves. "Whether
the son desires the vehicle of his father, or the young creative wants to intentionally
distinguish himself from the mainstream, or the established doctor fulfils a childhood
dream - all share the wish to strive for a vehicle with a character. Driving a
young classic car is deemed to be fashionable for many young people and the young
at heart", this is how Mercedes-Benz Classic described in a press release
the intentions to buy a young classic car. In particular the brand with the star
consistently and sincerely attends to the issue of young classic cars - and offers
the "Young Classics" at their factory exhibition stand in hall 1. Also
the other manufacturers dedicate themselves to the topic of young classic cars,
such as for example BMW with the 3 series or Audi - whose Audi 100 C3 will be
30 years in this year - and Ford with the Sierra, which also will be a vintage
car in 2012. Also tuning is an issue that has been established increasingly at TECHNO-CLASSICA in the past years. At the beginning of the 1970s, tuning started to be a topic for the broad public. Popular tuning objects were, for example, the Ford Capri, Opel Manta and Opel Commodore (which celebrates its 40th anniversary in this year), and also the BMW 02 models. Therefore, the interest in classic tuning for engine, chassis and body is correspondingly high - with visual changes and also technical modifications and improvements. This includes, along with the accessories trade, also the US hot rods scene and the customs scene, presenting some spectacular exhibits at the world classic show. Last, but not least the offerings of the dealers: at TECHNO-CLASSICA, approx. 200 tuned classic cars are looking for a new owner. |
